Team Savvy

STM Team Savvy

Saint Thomas More has many adult formation opportunities, from guest speakers to prayer groups to Catechism studies. Team Savvy (formerly known as the "Savvy Seniors") is all about fostering community among senior members of our greater STM community. We focus on the spiritual, social and support needs of each other in our varied aspects of living. Gatherings occur between September and May on the second Tuesday of the month. Programs may include Mass, meals, informative speakers, story sharing, and games. You are welcome to make announcements regarding your involvements in our parish and community at our gatherings. Occasionally we may meet as a group to attend a concert or enjoy outings to various Twin City venues. Please come as often as you can!

Communication and RSVP is through Sign Up Genius. Announcements will be sent out in STM’s newsletters and to those registered already as Team Savvy. If you want to be on the Team Savvy list please notify Patti Rhodus at mustardseed452@gmail.com. To suggest program speakers or ideas please notify Nonie Osendorf at nosendorf@gmail.com.

RSVP HERE February 10: Mass & Brown Bag Lunch, with Rhonda Miska as a guest speaker!

Statistics show that Millenials (those born from 1980-1996) and members of Gen Z (those born from 1997-2012) are significantly less engaged in organized religion than previous generations. How do we make sense of this shift? How can older Catholics engage in meaningful relationships and dialogue with members of those generations in mutually life-giving ways - especially with those in our own families? What do we do with the grief we carry when younger generations do not engage in church life in the same way?
Rhonda Miska has been a STM parishioner since 2021. She holds a master's degree from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching degree from the Aquinas Institute of Theology. She is an "elder millennial" born in 1980.

Lenten Service Project
We are beginning to work on our Lenten service project. Team Savvy is putting together Lenten Bags, which will be handed out after all masses on Ash Wednesday and the first Sunday of Lent. Each bag will have a calendar with a suggestion for a daily Lenten action: prayer, fasting, alms giving, etc. The goal is to cross off as many actions as possible and return the bags to the gathering space during the Triduum or by Easter Sunday. After Rhonda's talk we will staple the calendars to the outside of the bags!

PAST EVENTS:

January Mass & Bingo

In January, we had our monthly "Mass & Lunch" fellowship. Mass, celebrated by Fr. Peter, was followed by a potluck lunch in Saint Ignatius Hall. Guests were invited to bring any dish, dessert, snack, or beverage to share. Once lunch was wrapped up, we got out the bingo cards and call sheets, and had a blast! We will definitely be playing bingo again.

We hope you can join us for future events!

December Mass & Christmas Smörgåsbord

For December, we had our monthly "Mass & Lunch" fellowship. Mass, celebrated by Fr. Peter, was followed by a potluck lunch in Saint Ignatius Hall. Guests were invited to bring any dish, dessert, snack, or beverage to share. Along with sharing updates and announcements, we had a period of sharing Christmas stories and memories with the group! Hilarity ensued.

We hope you can join us for future events.

November Mass & Soup Lunch

This was the first Mass & Lunch of the year, and what better way to celebrate than with a cozy soup potluck? Mass was said by Fr. Peter and then we headed down to St. Ignatius Hall for lunch.

We hope you can join us for future events.

Seven Sorrows of Mary

Parishioner Susan Stabile led an evening surrounding the Seven Sorrows of Mary and how they relate to our lives. These sorrows commemorate the seven sorrows that the Virgin Mary experienced throughout her life: the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, the loss of the Jesus in the temple, the meeting of Jesus carrying his cross, the crucifixion, the taking down of the body of Jesus from the cross, and the burial of Jesus. The evening gave us an opportunity to reflect on Mary's sorrows, and notice how we might experience similar pains; loss of loved ones, illness, and other personal struggles.

Caring For Those With Memory Loss

Lisa Brown from Lyngblomsten Community Services came to teach about the challenges caregivers face when providing support and care for someone living with memory loss. She shared about the broad range of supportive resources and services available in the community, and how building a community of support for those caring for others can make a world of difference.

If you have questions about any of our adult faith formation opportunities, please email Carol at carend@morecommunity.org.
