Meet our Cristo Rey Work Study Interns - Jackie

FEBRUARY 12, 2024

Jackie is a Sophomore at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Minneapolis and lives with her family in Minneapolis.

Hi, St. Thomas More Community,

I am Jackie, a 10th grader at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School interning as a receptionist at St. Thomas More Parish. I’m granted the opportunity of working with the More community and learning from my peers at the parish and the school next door with Ms. Ney. I'm always looking forward to a warm welcome and meeting other members of the Church every morning on my Corporate Work Study Day (CWSP). I’m interested in a few other things than just studying and working, like crocheting, volleyball, reading, and my favorite, the piano. Kellen has been giving me piano lessons every work day, which is one of the best parts of my day. I aspire to do more activities but for now my curiosity can wait until then.

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is a place I can always aim for success with no doubt. There is never a day without motivation to ask questions and do my best. We are always given time to breathe and reflect during class while we begin an examen. After a long day we get to rest our minds and listen to one of our peers or teachers speak and meditate with us for the day. It’s always refreshing to end my day on a positive note.

I’ve made good progress in the receptionist department at St. Thomas More and can comfortably interact with parishioners in-person or through calls. I’m able to experience more interactions with adults than before and can manage my work efficiently by asking the right questions whenever I need help. Overall, I enjoy being with the St. Thomas More community every Thursday morning and afternoon, and I hope to meet more of you soon!

Thank you for welcoming me!

Sincerely,
Jackie P.

About the Cristo Rey Work Study Program

Cristo Rey Jesuit empowers students to be college-ready and career-prepared with an innovative Corporate Work-Study Program that employs 100% of their students.  Students earn approximately half of the cost of their education through a job-sharing partnership with their classmates to cover a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from late-August to mid-June. Cristo Rey's experiential learning model is unique as they are the only school in Minneapolis/St. Paul that incorporates on-site job experience into its academic curriculum.
