Making End of Life Decisions Faithfully

SEPTEMBER 18, 4:30 - 6 PM, ST. IGNATIUS HALL

Jamie Moloney–Director of Pastoral Outreach at The Catholic Cemeteries,  Gary Pearson–Pre-Planning Consultant with O'Halloran & Murphy Cremation & Funeral Services, and Kellen O'Grady–Director of Liturgy and Music at Saint Thomas More, will discuss the importance of burying the dead and having a permanent place to memorialize and honor your loved one. Full-body and cremation options will also be discussed, including what the Catholic Church recommends and why. Pre-planning your burial options is a gift to your family, to ease the burden of settling your affairs, and to eliminate unnecessary stress on loved ones at the time of your death.

Bereavement and Funerals

Because of our belief not only in the immortality of the soul, but also in the resurrection of the body, the Church professes hope in the face of death, and acts with charity in the funeral rites. The Church provides a number of prayers for the faithful to offer both to accompany the dying of a loved one and to strengthen our faith upon their death. Through private prayer and public funeral rites, we strengthen our faith and hope, comfort those who mourn, and bury the bodily remains of the deceased with care befitting what was the Temple of the Holy Spirit. (from the USCCB)
