A LETTER FROM THE PASTOR OF OUR SISTER PARISH

Dear Fr. Warren and the faithful of St. Thomas More Parish,

We are very saddened to hear the rapid spread of the Corona Virus in U.S. I think so far your locality and the whole parish is untouched as we are here untouched so far. Yes of late just these few days passed in India too the people infected with this virus has increased tremendously. So far in India has not reached the third stage but as the experts said it is not far from the community spread if the people are not serious like social distancing. Let us hope and pray for the best.

We are still in the Nation lock down for 21 days. We are not able to celebrate Mass with the people and it will be also I think for the Easter Triduum and the Easter Sunday. Our people, with this nation wide lock down have suffered a lot especially those who earn their livelihood on daily basis, I think similarly people over there met the same hardship of life those who are day labourers.

At this time of uncertainties, anxieties, worries, fears, all over the world, let us support each other through prayers. There is no other comforting words than the words of the Lord himself who says, "Know that I am always with you till the end of times." Convey my regards and my prayers for them to Dan, Steve, Sharon, Mary, Barb, and to all the faithful of St. Thomas More Parish.

Dear Sister Parish of St. Thomas More know that we remember you and pray for you.

The Lord bless you Fr. Warren and all the faithful,

With Love and prayers,
- Fr. Robert Pohrmen, SJ, Pastor of St. Francis Xavier

THE PARISH COUCIL STRUCTURE OF ST. FRANCIS XAVIER

The Parish Pastoral Council of St. Francis Xavier Church (parish), Umbir comprises 54 members. These members are of two categories; that is Ex-officio and Elected. The Ex-Officio members are of the parish priest, the Pastoral Catechist of the parish, the Pastoral sisters of the parish, all the local catechists at the village catholic community, all the presidents and secretaries of the parish associations. The Elected Members are elected from the village catholic community by the community and all the village catholic communities get adequate representation in the Parish Pastoral Council.

The Parish Pastoral Council’s members are elected for three years and every three years, the members are re-elected or newly elected except the Ex-officio members which will depend on the office they hold. The Parish Pastoral Council generally holds two meetings every year, one at the beginning of the year, to plan for the whole year and the other meeting towards the end of the year to evaluate the ending year with regard to the activities done in the year. Every year we have the renewal programme for the members of the PPC (Parish Pastoral Council). This year we had it on 16th of February 2020.
The main function or responsibility of the Parish Pastoral Council is to see the overall growth of the parish in all aspects of life. To make the work of the Council more effectively, committees are formed. At present we have the following committees:

  1. Pastoral committee and Liturgy committee see to all the spiritual aspects of the parish.
  2. Education committee sees to all the educational aspects in the parish.
  3. Finance committee provides financial help (from the faithful themselves) to all the activities of the parish.
  4. Publicity committee gives publicity some of the important activities of the parish.
  5. Social committee sees the cleanliness of the parish compound and insists cleanliness in the whole of parish and organises cultural programme during important feasts of the parish.
  6. Sound committee is to provide good sound system in all the parish programme.
  7. Development committee/Building committee is to collect or raise fund for the parish church building. For example the committee prepares and sells food stuff on big feasts of the parish. It also prepares food for all the invitees on special feasts of the parish.
  8. Fete committee is to conduct a fete every year in order to raise fund for the parish church building.
  9. Sunday school committee sees to the running smooth of the Sunday schools of all the villages. It also provides syllabus to all the Sunday schools at the beginning of the year.
