Tour of Church History Summer Series

with Fr. RJ

 

JUNE 26, JULY 10, JULY 24, 7 - 8:30 PM, ST. IGNATIUS HALL




Join Fr. RJ on his Tour of Church history. Over three sessions Fr. RJ will look at various moments of Church history - From the Apostolic Era through the first seven Ecumenical Councils (June 26th), to the rise of mendicant religious orders and founding of the Society of Jesus (July 10), and finally on US Catholic History with a focus on our own Archdiocese (July 24th). Come to all three sessions or the one that appeals to you most.

All sessions start at 7 PM in Ignatius Hall and will have light refreshments. We ask that you please register below!

Join Fr. RJ as he talks about the rise of Christianity and various heresies that helped shape early Christians. The presentation will begin with what we learn about early Christians through the development of the New Testament and touch on how each of the first seven Ecumentical Councils were called to address the heresies of their time. We will also talk about how these heresies have not gone away and how they continue to influence culture today. The talk should last an hour with 30 minutes of conversation and questions to follow. Join Fr. RJ as he talks about the rise of the Franciscans, Dominicans, and the Society of Jesus as we continue to journey along Church history. The presentation will cover several significant figures from the 11th century to the 16th century. The talk is sure to cover a variety of subjects and Fr. RJ will have plenty of Jesuit jokes on hand to keep the presentation lively. The talk should last an hour with 30 minutes of conversation and questions to follow. From John to John, a tour of US Catholic History

   JULY 24


Join Fr. RJ as he talks about the US Catholic Church from the first Bishop John Carroll to President John F. Kennedy. The presentation will cover the establishment of the Catholic Church in the United States and significant points in US Catholic History with a large portion dedicated specifically to the history of Archbishop John Ireland and our own Archdiocese. The talk should last an hour with 30 minutes of conversation and questions to follow. Please RSVP so we can have a rough estimate for the light refreshments.
