Seeking Applicants: Director of Development
DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to and in partnership with the pastor and principal, the Director of Development is responsible for raising vital funds for the Saint Thomas More Catholic Community by developing, executing, managing, and administering all development efforts. With the support of the Stewardship and Finance Committees, the Director of Development will implement a comprehensive development plan including, but not limited to, church and school annual appeals, fundraising event management, church and school annual reports, database management, and major gift, corporate, foundation, and planned giving efforts.
DUTIES:
Develop and execute church and school annual fundraising plan.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts from current and prospective donors.
Prepare detailed, individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for each major gift donor/prospect (i.e. gratitude phone calls, personal notes, invitations to special events, timing and approach of next ask, etc.)
Plan, coordinate, and execute education on planned giving through in-person meetings, seminars, and direct mail pieces.
Identify, cultivate, and secure documented planned gifts through bequests, life insurance, retirement plan assets, and other deferred giving vehicles.
Research and write grant proposals that support church and school initiatives and capital improvement plans.
Oversee annual auction, including collaboration with Auction Committee to establish event fundraising goal, development of sponsorship levels, and management of sponsorship solicitation efforts.
Collaborate with Stewardship Committee and Director of Communications to coordinate and execute church and school annual reports.
Oversee timely acknowledgement of gifts through thank you letters and yearly contribution reports.
Oversee donor management system to ensure records are accurate and up to date.
Support the principal and pastor in cultivating relationships with major donors.
Provide leadership for future capital campaign efforts.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required
3+ years of related experience required
Excellent oral and written communication skills; effective listener
Exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively and with a variety of stakeholders
Knowledge of accounting software and experience with donor management system; competence working with technology
Outstanding organizational skills; attentive to detail
Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple, competing priorities, highly adaptable
Able to work occasional weekends and evenings throughout the year.
Background check and safe environment certification; must be obtained within 30 days of hire
