Introducing Fish Fischer — Candidate for the Diaconate

12/15/2022

Hello, I am Fish Fischer.  My wife, Maureen, and I joined Saint Thomas More Catholic Community after immediately being attracted to the warm, engaging spirit of community at the parish when we moved to Saint Paul three years ago . I am currently in my third year of formation to become a permanent deacon in this Archdiocese at the Institute for Diaconal Formation at the Saint Paul Seminary, with an expected ordination date one year from now in December 2023.

Following ordination, I will serve at Saint Thomas More for a short time before getting my permanent assignment the following summer.  Initially, serving at a home parish is a good way for a freshly ordained deacon to get comfortable with their new role at Mass and within a parish community.  I’ve been able to serve as an acolyte and sacristan at Saint Thomas More, so you may recognize me from recent liturgies.

Maureen and I have been greatly blessed to be in formation over the past four years, growing closer to God and each other as we prepare to serve God’s local church in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul Minneapolis.  I am so pleased to begin my ministry at Saint Thomas More at a time when there are great needs and great opportunities to serve the church.

As the Church begins a year of Eucharistic Revival, Saint Thomas More will offer Eucharistic Adoration on Fridays this upcoming Lenten season. As a community, we want to encourage widespread participation in this venerable tradition of spending time in silence in the presence of our Lord. More information about this opportunity will come soon. In the meantime, I look forward to my continued diaconate formation as a parishioner of Saint Thomas More. If you have questions or want to get involved in the planning of our adoration ministry please contact me. My email is fischinwater@gmail.com.

Peace!
Fish Fischer
