My illustrations are sparked by words, and quite often, by the Word. So, it’s no surprise (to me at least) that I’d go to scripture to find a common thread for the illustrated deliverables asked of me.
Below are a few particular verses that sparked my illustrations for our advent illustrations. Given the deep darkness that has seemed to descend on our world in the form of conflict, violence, and war, this passage feels particularly powerful.
The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them.
You will multiply the nation,
You will increase their joy.
During advent, the light for which we long will gradually build as we await the coming of Christ - “Light from Light, true God from true God.”
Then, at His coming, made known to the wise men by the Christmas star, the Light will shine upon us, just as Isaiah promised. It will illuminate us, multiply us, increase our joy. And isn’t that just what our world needs?
