A Message of Thanks, from Principal Pat Lofton

Dear St. Thomas More Families,

As we enter this season of gratitude, I want to share how thankful we are for our larger parish community that surrounds and supports St. Thomas More Catholic School—Minnesota’s only Jesuit elementary school. Since 1904, our school has been a place that forms and transforms students’ hearts and minds. Our school is a special place because students experience a formative education that goes beyond academics. It is about shaping the whole person—intellectually, morally, socially, and spiritually—so that students don’t just succeed; they become the people they are meant to be, and who God needs them to be.

Our current enrollment of 334 students in preschool through grade eight is more than double our enrollment from a decade ago. Our student population continues to grow and is increasingly diverse—racially, socio economically, and geographically. Seventy percent of our students live within a ten-minute drive of our campus, and thirty percent travel from the suburbs to be part of our school family. No matter how far they travel, every student finds a place where they are known, loved, and empowered to become young people for others.

Our school is incredibly blessed by the support provided by our larger parish by covering the expenses associated with maintenance and custodial, building repairs, utilities, and assessments. The support that our larger parish community offers to our school ministry is transformational and critically needed in order to keep tuition affordable for our increasingly diverse group of families.

As we prepare for Thanksgiving tomorrow and approach the Season of Advent, we traditionally launch our Annual Fund program. This fund invites current and alumni parents, grandparents, parishioners, and other supporters of the school to help raise unrestricted financial support that bridges the gap between tuition revenue and the actual cost of educating each student. The current gap is approximately $1,400 per student. Any financial gift—small or large—helps strengthen the mission and ministry of St. Thomas More.
