Meet our Cristo Rey Work Study Interns - Ashley
JANUARY 25, 2024
Ashley P. M. is a first year at
Cristo Rey Jesuit High School
in Minneapolis. Ashley has three siblings– one older sister and two younger sisters! She and her family live in Minneapolis.
My name is Ashley. I am in the ninth grade at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. I really like Cristo Rey High School because of their environment and how they’ve welcomed me into their community. They also teach me how to be professional and give me really good opportunities. I am not in many [extracurriculars], but I am planning to join the volleyball team for next year.
Outside of school, I really love getting time to spend with my family. They are always there for me in good and bad times. My parents want the best for me and my future. My dad always goes to work for me and my family to have a place to live and food to eat. My mother always does her best to keep me and my family safe and healthy. That's why I will always be grateful for them. I also enjoy going for car rides, learning how to cook new meals, and lastly, relaxing and sleeping after a full day of school and work.
Saint Thomas More has been a really nice environment for my work study. [The staff] has had really good projects for me to do. I also like the community. They’ve been really nice to get to know and everyday I learn new things from them. I have developed several skills while working at Saint Thomas More. I have become more comfortable answering calls, worked on managing my time and projects assigned to me, and being creative in getting tasks done.
Thank you for welcoming me!
Ashley P. M.
About the Cristo Rey Work Study Program
Cristo Rey Jesuit empowers students to be college-ready and career-prepared with an innovative
Corporate Work-Study Program
that employs 100% of their students. Students earn approximately half of the cost of their education through a job-sharing partnership with their classmates to cover a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from late-August to mid-June. Cristo Rey's experiential learning model is unique as they are the only school in Minneapolis/St. Paul that incorporates on-site job experience into its academic curriculum.
