A Message from Principal Pat Lofton
A Message from Principal Pat Lofton
JANUARY 8, 2026
Dear Saint Thomas More Families,
Over the past day, several families have reached out with questions and concerns following the tragic killing of Renee Nicole Good in South Minneapolis, the possibility of demonstrations in the days ahead, and the decision by Minneapolis Public Schools to close for the remainder of this week.
I want to begin by acknowledging the heaviness many of us may be feeling. Moments like these can bring fear, uncertainty, and deep concern for the safety and well-being of our children and our broader community. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.
At this time, St. Thomas More School will remain open. If circumstances change and we are advised that a temporary closure would be in the best interest of our community, that decision would likely be made the evening prior and communicated promptly by text and email.
Our school continues to be in communication with local authorities, particularly given the demonstrations that occur near the governor’s residence. Above all, our focus remains on creating a safe, welcoming, loving, and peaceful environment where our students can learn and grow.
I also want to acknowledge that some families may be especially anxious given the immigration enforcement taking place throughout the Twin Cities. Please know that our school and church communities are rooted in the belief that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and deserves dignity, compassion, and care. Your concerns are understood, and your children are cherished here. This is echoed by our Pastor Fr. R.J. Fichtinger S.J. and the parish staff in their shared message found on their news page.
I ask that you continue to pray for our school, our city, and all those who are suffering or afraid. Even in moments of uncertainty, I remain hopeful—trusting that through faith, compassion, and unity, justice and peace will prevail.
Pat Lofton, Ed.S
Head of School
