Screening of Not Just Football

August 13, 2019 - 7 pm - School Gymnasium

One Body is our parish initiative to encounter immigrants and migrants and to strive for social change. As part of this effort, we are hosting a screening of the movie “Not Just Football,” the incredible story of Darfur United, an all-refugee team from a forgotten region that has experienced “hell on earth.” We will watch the movie then have time to reflect and discuss.

Not Just Football is a 70-minute documentary that follows Gabriel Stauring, the founder of iAct, a Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) partner. Inspired by the plight of thousands of refugees who fled from the Darfur region of Sudan, Gabriel created “Darfur United” in 2012, a soccer team comprised of young Darfuri refugees living in the refugee camps of Chad. The film follows the journey of Darfur United players, from the dust of the refugee camps to the lights of the World Football Cup; and along the complex path of displacement.
