First Eucharist
In the sacrament of Eucharist, we remember the action of Jesus at the Last Supper when he blessed and broke the bread and shared it with his disciples. We give thanks for Jesus' sacrifice and celebrate his ongoing presence with us.
A child who wishes to prepare for First Eucharist must prepare for and complete First Reconciliation before beginning preparation for First Eucharist. Preparation for First Eucharist begins in January and culminates in our parish celebration on April 15, 2012.
The preparation process includes both activities at church and a program of home study. Parents and children attend three large group learning experiences at the parish in addition to a mini-retreat, then students demonstrate their readiness for the sacrament in individual interviews. A mandatory practice session will be held the Saturday before the parish celebration.
Expectations of Parents and Children:
- All children and their families must be registered members of Saint Thomas More Catholic Community, participating regularly in weekend worship.
- All children must have prepared for and completed First Reconciliation.
- All children must complete eight lessons at home.
-
All families must attend all of the following activities:
- Three parent and child sessions
- One mini-retreat
- One interview
- One practice for the celebration
- Public school students must also attend the annual "Safe Environment" lessons scheduled for all Faith Formation students.
Registration deadline: September 12, 2011. Registrations received after this date are subject to approval by the coordinator and an additional late fee.
