Confirmation
Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation. It continues a process of full membership in the Church that was begun at Baptism. Confirmation is sometimes called the Sacrament of the Holy Spirit, and it strengthens and celebrates the presence of God’s Spirit in our lives.
Preparation for Confirmation begins in the fall for teenagers in tenth grade and older. It consists of a kickoff meeting for parents and teens in early October, followed by six monthly sessions, a retreat day and individual interviews, culminating in our celebration of the sacrament at the Cathedral on May 17, 2012.
Expectations of Parents & Teens:
- All teens and their families must be registered members of Saint Thomas More Catholic Community, participating regularly in weekend worship.
- All families must collaborate to provide a light lunch for the teens—more details will be provided at the kickoff meeting.
- All teens must attend all regularly scheduled sessions. One excused absence will be allowed although individuals must complete make-up work for this missed session.
- All teens must complete service requirements—more details will be provided at the kickoff meeting.
- All teens must choose a sponsor and a Confirmation name—details to be provided at the kickoff meeting.
- All teens must write a letter requesting Confirmation, due at the last session.
