Music Ministry

Enhancing our Prayer Experience with Music
We are coming to realize that how we pray and the sound that accompanies it are inseparable. Our tradition is rich with musical styles from every age: Gregorian Chant, polyphonic motets, straightforward strophic hymns like “Holy God We Praise Thy Name”, all the way to our gradual understanding and use of music from all over the world. St. Thomas More has a multi-faceted music ministry. We take seriously the charge that “the musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value…” (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, #112). Our music speaks within the liturgy, bringing life to the prayer and to the community. Just as diversity defines the Church, so too must the music that is integral to the prayer show great diversity.

Cantors
The cantor program is called upon throughout the year for Solemnities, such as All Saints Day, All Souls Day or the feasts of Assumption and the Immaculate Conception.

Instrumentalists
We have a number of musicians who join the vocal groups with their stringed or wind instruments. We welcome those of you who play an instrument and would like to create an ensemble, or accompany any of the vocal groups.

Youth Choir
St. Thomas More Children's Choir meets every Wednesday, from 4:15-5 pm They minister at various masses throughout the year, including Christmas and Easter. Parents are always welcome to stay and observe.

Adult Choir
Liturgy is lead by the choir under the direction of our Director of Liturgy and Music. This group meets each Wednesday (except during the summer months) at 7 pm. Strings, flute, the occasional trumpet and drums are also a part of this group.

Festival Choir
Our Festival Choir is a seasonal group made up of permanent choir members and members of the parish who wish to sing on a limited basis. We meet two to three weeks before the major feasts of Christmas and Easter. We sing at the Christmas Eve liturgy and at the Easter Vigil.
